Our house … is a very fine house.

I’ve been asked to post images of our house to remind our guests of it and how it’s changed since they were last here. .

We’ve rented it for sixteen years. Which makes it the house I’ve lived in longest in the whole of my life.

It’s actually two houses.

On the ground floor it’s a 2 bhk. That’s two bedrooms, a hall (lounge), dining room (converted to NQAR —- not quite a room — for Kaveri, kitchen, entrance foyer for the shoes,

On the first floor it’s a 3bhk and now one of the bedrooms is Manjula’s library.

When Manjula first came here it was sparsely furnished and decorated.

Her first worry was that there wasn’t an electric grinder.

Having to use this, would be just too much!

Now the house is full to bursting inside and out

We had an Indian family return to see us last week. I asked what they could spot on this wall that wasn’t Indian.

Returning guests take pleasure from spotting what’s new. The ‘blue plaque’, outside the front door, denoting that it’s where a famous person lived is the latest addition.

At lunch yesterday, after the cycle tour with a mix of cyclists some from our BnB and some from a different Airbnb in Mysore the difference between ours and this other BnB became apparent from their conversation. It was super to get that feedback and how different peoples experience can be….

We start welcoming you with an introductory email about us, the house and how we can help you have a great stay in Mysore. Our guests really appreciated our help but equally important was beginning to feel welcomed and making a connection right from the outset.

We provide detailed information about how to find us and if it’s required, a pick up from the airport or helpful details for dealing with autorickshaws.

Once you arrive, and Lucie has said hello, we welcome you with a guided tour, (most guests get confused between the different floors), a welcoming drink, visiting the roof terrace, understanding the necessity of filter water and the availability to top up your own bottles a refreshing tea or coffee and especially important a simple map showing where we are with highlights of places to eat and visit tailored to your interests.

We’re here to help with information and advice, arrange easy going transport from drivers we know and trust.

So, what is there to do in Mysore?

How long to stay?
We are asked so often that we thought we’d show what visitors have experienced and thought after staying here.
Our current guests are an English family living in France with mum and dad and two pre teen children. It goes without saying they are a lovely group, gang, team….. They ARE staying here 😉  ALL our guests are great.

They have been here three nights and have covered the following:

Walk up Chamundi Hill followed by dinner in one of our favourite roof-top restaurants Hotel Roopa.

Next day after breakfast at our place, Vasanth in his auto rickshaw took them to the Silk Mill, followed by the Maharaja’s Palace and then the idiosyncratic art gallery at Jaganmohan Palace. Royal Mysore Walks provided a walking tour to introduce the city, market and street food. Dinner was veg Indian feast prepared by Manjula.

On the third day, it was equally packed. Pancakes for breakfast. A MYcycle tour of Srirangapatmam that lasted most of the day followed by late lunch at the riverside restaurant. Vasanth then helped them sort out their bus tickets to travel on to north Kerala on the fourth day.

Their verdict? We’ll let them speak for themselves.

To us, it has reinforced one key fact. They’ve had a wonderful time and managed to fit a lot in during their stay. As with most of our guests they wish to stay longer. Once people spend time here and realise it’s a lovely easy-going accessible city with year-round great weather and much more to do than they first thought, they all feel that. If it was possible to stay (it isn’t) our family might fit in another trip to the island, see some of the local artisans, art museum, sand sculptures, more of the countryside and even do a bit of shopping.

Soda Bread, our new thing!

Guests really like our Sea Buckthorn Jam and juice that’s especially imported from the Himalayas. a regular supply of decent cheese escapes us although kind guests sometimes smuggle it from Europe. BUT the latest big hit is soda bread as developed by Stephen’s son Ben at http://www.timeout.com/london/restaurants/season-kitchen
